Joseph Hasper

Bio:

Joseph Hasper is an American composer who works in styles ranging from jazz to post-modern orchestral. His music has been played in over 50 countries and has won awards from the American Prize in Choral Composition, Anton Stadler Competition, National Federation of Music Clubs, UNC 360° Jazz Initiative, and Texas Small School Band Association Competition. He was guest composer at the Fresno New Music Festival and has presented music at the Oklahoma Composers Association. His grants include those from New Music USA Composer’s Assistance Program, The Robberson Fund, University of Oklahoma Graduate Research Program, and the Weitzenhoffer College of Fine Arts

Dr. Hasper studied composition with Marilyn Taft Thomas and Leonardo Balada at Carnegie Mellon University, earned a DMA in composition from the University of Oklahoma while studying with Marvin Lamb and Kostas Karathanis, and studied jazz composition and piano with Rich Shemaria and Phil Markowitz at the Mannes College of Music. He is Associate Professor of Music at Grove City College where he teaches music theory and composition
